JEA Instructions for Authors
The ACM JEA invites submissions describing original research in experimental algorithmics. A typical submission to the ACM JEA will include an article, a suite of programs, and perhaps a collection of test data and computational results. This page has information on:
- Submitting a manuscript to ACM JEA
- Submitting software and data
- What to do when your paper is accepted
Submitting a manuscript to ACM JEA
If you are going to prepare your manuscript in LaTeX, please go to the
following directory for further instructions:
www.acm.org/publications/submissions/latex_style
If you prefer to prepare your manuscript in MS Word, please go to the
following directory for a working template.
www.acm.org/publications/word_style/
Submissions are handled electronically through ACM Manuscript Central, which may be found at mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jea.
At Manuscript Central, you will be asked to:
- Create an account and password if you do not already have one.
- Select the Journal of Experimental Algorithmics from the journal list and proceed to the Author Center to submit your manuscript and files.
- Classify your submission using the ACM Computing Classification System; create an abstract; fill out a form.
- Submit your manuscript by uploading one or more PDF files. Note that Manuscript Central will not accept PDF files containing Type 3 fonts. (Type 3 fonts are the default on some older ps-to-pdf conversion programs.)
- Submit any accompanying data or code files (designate them Supplemental Files). If your files are larger than 10Mb, please do not upload the files; rather, provide a url indicating where they can be found.
Submitting Software and Data
- The software, data, links, and documentation that accompany your
manuscript will be checked to see that code installs properly, tools
and data are adequately documented, and that results generally
correspond to those described in the article. JEA does not ask
reviewers to certify the correctness or quality of submitted code.
- Software, data, and files are published by ACM JEA without
copyright, and are freely available to the public. Both the copyrighted
manuscripts and uncopyrighted support materials are indexed in the ACM
Digital Library. If you are prevented by your employer from making
your code available, mention that fact with your submission: JEA
editors can review your code under a non-disclosure policy.
- ACM Manuscript
Central will invite you to upload all files that accompany your
manuscript. JEA prefers to receive a zipped tar file or else a
url pointing to those files, but other formats can be accomodated.
- See Preparing Software and Data for JEA for guidelines on issues of languages, platforms, and packaging.
What to do When your Manuscript is Accepted
When your manuscript is accepted you will be given instructions about submitting final versions of your files.
- The ACM requires that manuscripts be prepared for publication
using eitherLaTeX or MS Word. The ACM makes available a set of
style files which are standard for all ACM
Publications. Those files may be found at the site:
Submitting Articles to ACM Journals.
- You will be asked to provide the LaTeX
or MS Word source (using the style files),
together with the PDF file containing the final version
of your paper (for comparison to the source).
- You must sign a transfer of copyright form for your article.
Please
download the form and mail or fax your completed form to:
Irma Strolia Editorial Assistant Association for Computing Machinery 2 Penn Plaza, Suite 701 New York City, NY 10121-0701 fax: 212-869-0481
- Software, data files, and websites that accompany your JEA article are not copyrighted by ACM.
- You may also be contacted by the JEA Editor in Chief with questions about your software and related file submissions.
After uploading your materials, you may be contacted by ACM typesetters about changes to the "camera ready copy" of your paper. When these changes are complete, ACM will use your source file to prepare the final version of your paper for publication in the Digital Library.
