Copyright Issues
Permission to use, copy, and distribute all material directly produced by the CATS project is granted provided that all associated copyright notices are included.
The CATS project tries to make sure that synthetic problem generators and real-life problem instances are available free and without a license for non-commercial use, provided that the associated copyright notices appear in all copies. However, the final responsibility of for the use of the generators and the instances remains with the user.
References and links to software, journal articles, and other resources, are provided for information purposes only. Some of these are commercial products or have restricted use. We expect the users to obey all rules and conditions associated with the material pointed to by CATS.
All material and software is provided as is. The CATS project do not make any warranties, either express or implied, with regard to the the material and software. The project also disclaims any warranty that the material and software is free of infringement of any intellectual property rights of others. No other license express or implied is hereby granted. CATS shall not be liable for any damages, including general, special, incidental, or consequential damages, arising out of the use or inability to use the material and the software.
Acknowledgment We expect CATS users to acknowledge the material they use in a scholarly manner. The approved way to reference CATS is to use its name and its official URL, www.jea.acm.org/CATS/; the approved way to reference an experiment is by the URL provided at the problem site.
Adding New Experiments
New experiments (application data, synthetic data, or data generators) are strongly encouraged. Researchers with new experiments should communicate with the Associate Editor in charge of the problem. New experiments must use the format defined for that problem and should be accompanied by results and paper(s) justifying their inclusion. As they become used by other researchers, they may be moved into the core collection at the discretion of the Associate Editor in charge. Contributions are acknowledged at each problem site.
Adding New Problems
In order to add a new problem, a proposal should be sent to the Editorial Board. This proposal should include the name and email address of the volunteer, a concise description of the problem area, a list of the initial experiments proposed, and a list of references. The simplest way to accomplish all this is for the volunteer to set up a mock-up of the proposed CATS site for the new problem and email the URL to the Editorial Board. The Editorial Board as a whole will consider the proposal.
Mirrors
Mirrors are encouraged. A mirror site may mirror the entire collection of pages under CATS or serve as a mirror for one or more problems. In order to be acknowledged as an official mirror of CATS, any mirror site must include a front page that makes it clear that the site in question offers a mirror and points to the original CATS site; also, a mirror site must mirror an entire problem or not mirror it at all.
